Registration
- Entries are accepted on a first come basis and are limited to the allocated amount for each location
- Studio directors are to determine the level of each dancer. The competition level of each routine is determined by the level of dancers registered.
- No independent entries are allowed. All entries must be registered through a studio.
Battle Rules
- Studios may choose to enter one small or large group piece into the Battle of the Titans. Extra fees will be charged to the studio for this Battle piece. Battle pieces will compete against other studios for the title of Titan of that region. Each Titan will then be featured on our website, social media, and promotional materials until a new Titan is crowned for that region. The Studio of that Titan will be invited to Battle the next season against other studios, free of charge, with a minimum of 10 pieces registered to defend their Title.
Payment
- All deposits must be paid by credit card via the registration system.
- All competition fees must either be paid by certified bank check or by credit card via the registration system.
- Registrations must be submitted and paid in full no later than 3 weeks prior to the competition.
- All studio registrations must be accompanied by payment.
- Titan Dance Challenge does not accept independents.
- All fees are non-refundable.
General
- Titan Dance Challenge will only conduct business with Studios. No parents should call our office for any reason. Any inquiries from parents regarding schedules, venues or judging should be directed to the participating studio only.
- Inappropriate behavior on behalf of studio staff, studio directors, owners, dancers, teachers, and parents will result in the immediate disqualification with no refunds.
- Recruiting or attempting to recruit students from another studio will not be tolerated.
- Studios are required to report backstage 3 routines prior to your scheduled performance. Titan Dance Challenge will make every attempt to run in order of the program; however, some slight changes may be made in order to accommodate costume/make up changes.
- NOISEMAKERS OF ANY KIND ARE PROHIBITED. This includes but not limited to any type of air horn, cow bell, rattle device, whistle, etc. These are a distraction to our staff, judges, dancers, and other parents.
- The use of photo and video cameras (including phone and tablet devices) are strictly prohibited during performances. This rule is in place to protect the dancers from photos and/or videos being posted online as well as the artistic rights of the choreographers and competitors that have worked extremely hard to exhibit their performance. Titan Dance Challenge’s video and photo staff will be responsible for all photo and video of performance routines.
- Media Release: Once a Studio registers, all Titan Dance Challenge competitors, teachers, studio owners, parents, and attendees grant permission to Titan Dance Challenge to use any photographs and/or video clips of the competition for press releases issued for promotional purposes. This can be, but not limited to, website, tv, social media, newspapers or magazines. No dancer names will be used.
- A liability release will need to be signed by each parent of performers under 18 years of age. If a performer is 18 or older, they may sign their own release.
- Titan Dance Challenge reserves the right to add or delete competition dates as well as relocate a competition venue due to unforeseen circumstances. Studios will be notified via the Studio email address on file.
Performance Levels
- Based on the following criteria, Studio Directors are to determine the level of each dancer.
- Novice Division
This division is for the beginner dancer who takes 3 hours or less of dance per week and has limited to no experience in competitions. Novice dancers may also compete in Productions. - Intermediate Division
This division is for the intermediate dancer who takes 5 or less hours of dance per week and has competition experience. Intermediate dancers may compete in both Advanced division and in Productions, but may not compete in the Novice Division. - Advanced Division
This division is for the advanced dancer who takes more than 5 hours of dance per week and has competition experience. Advanced division dancers may not compete in Novice or Intermediate divisions.
- Novice Division
Routine Placement
- Routines that have the same exact dancers, must compete in the same age and performance level across the board.
- Solo: Dancers must compete in the level they are registered for.
- Duet/Trio: The dancer with the most advanced performance level determines the level they are placed in.
- Small Group, Large Group and Lines: Novice dancers may not compete in the intermediate or advanced division. Intermediate dancers may not compete in the Novice division. Advanced dancers may not compete in the Novice or Intermediate Divisions.
- Productions: Productions will compete against each other in their own division. Awards will be given in two age categories. 12 & Under and 13 & Over. The average age will determine which age category they are to be placed in.
Age Division
- Age division is determined by the average age of the performers.
- Tini Titans: 4-6
- Mini Titans: 7-9
- Junior Titans: 10-12
- Teen Titans: 13-15
- Senior Titans: 16-19
- Production age divisions are determined by the average age of the performers. Production age divisions are 12 & Under and 13 & Over. If the average age of the group is 12.5-12.9, the piece will compete in the 13 & over division.
- A performer’s age is determined by their age as of January 1st, 2024. Studio directors should be prepared to produce a birth certificate should a protest arise. If the average age ends in 0-.4 it will be rounded down, if the average age ends in .5-.9, it will be rounded up in the age category.
- Competition pieces may not compete an age division lower. Dancers may not compete in a level below where they are registered for.
- If a person is visible on stage once the piece has started, they are considered to be a performer and are subject to the age division and group rules.
- If there is a group including a dancer who is 18 years of age or older, and out of high school, that group cannot be entered in the 12 and under division, regardless of age.
- Any competition piece that includes a teacher is not eligible for overall awards. A teacher is defined as anyone who choreographs and/or teaches a class and is 19 years of age or older.
Performance Genres
- Acro: A routine contains acrobatic and gymnastic elements. Choreography must contain 50% of dance routine. Studio is required to bring mats for piece.
- Ballet: A routine that consists of classical ballet movements and technique.
- Musical Theatre: A routine that is choreographed to a Broadway or movie musical.
- Open: A routine that consists of more than one style of dance that does not fit into any other category.
- Contemporary: A routine that consists of contemporary jazz and/or lyrical technique.
- HipHop: A routine that consists of hip hop or street style movements.
- Jazz: A routine that consists of jazz technique.
- Lyrical: A routine that consists of dancers interpreting the lyrics of a song.
- Modern: Interpretative routine in modern style.
- Pointe: A routine consisting of pointe technique. At least 50% of the routine must be en pointe. Advanced level only.
- Tap: A routine consisting of tap technique. No pre-recorded tap sounds allowed.
- Soloists may not compete against themselves in any Performance Genre.
- In duet, trios or group pieces, 50% of the performers must be different when competing in the same age and performance level.
- Only 3 acrobatic tricks are permitted in any dance category except Acro, Open, and Hip Hop. An Acro trick is considered anything where both feet pass over the head.
Entry Size & Time Limits
- Solo: One Dancer – 2:45 Minutes
- Duet: Two Dancers – 3:00 Minutes
- Trio: Three Dancers – 3:00 Minutes
- Small Group: Four to Nine Dancers – 3:00 Minutes
- Large Group: 10-17 Dancers – 4:00 Minutes
- Line: 18 – 24 Dancers – 5:00 Minutes
- Production: 25+ Dancers – 8:00 Minutes
Extended time is available to purchase for performances. Solos, duets, trios, and small & large groups may be extended by one minute. Lines and Productions may be extended by a maximum of 5 minutes. Please inquire for pricing.
Judging
- Each judge is highly trained in their specific genre and will give audio critiques to each performance. All performances will perform in their registered category. If any performance does not follow the guidelines for each level, Titan Dance Challenge reserves the right to place the performance in the correct level or category.
- The decisions of the judges are final.
- All music must be age appropriate and free from profanity or vulgarity. If a performance contains any profanity or vulgarity, the performance will be immediately stopped and disqualified with no refunds.
- Each performance will be judged by three judges. Each judge will use a 100 point judging system for each performance. Technique, Level of Difficulty, Choreography, Presentation and Overall Impression will be used for each performance. The Judge who is specialized in their genre will have a heavier weighted technique score. If there is a tie, the higher technique score will be used.

- If the performance is stopped by the studio or performers prior to the end of the piece, the judges may feel that there is not enough to score the performance. Depending on circumstance, the performance may be eligible to perform again for adjudication only.
Adjudication Scale
- Titanium: 295-300
- Platinum: 280-294.9
- Gold: 268-279.9
- Silver: 255-267.9
Props
- No props should exceed 8 feet.
- No liquid, fire, powder, glitter, paint, hairspray, haze, fog, dry ice, or anything deemed hazardous by Titan Dance Challenge or the Venue.
- Any items needing to be swept must be removed by a representative from the performing studio.
- Props should be set up within 3 minutes of the number announced on stage and removed within 3 minutes from when the dancers exit the stage. Prop setup and removal times that exceed the 3 minutes will result in a point deduction in the overall score from each judge unless expressly written to Titan Dance Challenge at least two weeks prior to the competition.
Schedule
- Registration will be closed approximately 14 days prior to the first day of competition. No changes to your submitted registration can be made including, but not limited to, music edits, division level, age or category. Studios must contact Titan Dance Challenge’s office in writing ([email protected]) to inform us of any changes or revisions that need to be made within 7 days prior to the first day of competition. The following fees will apply if changes need to be made:
- 7 days prior to first day of competition: $10 per change
- 4-6 days prior to first day of competition: $40 per change
- Less than 3 days prior to first day of competition: No changes allowed/No refunds allowed
- A detailed competition schedule will be available 7 days prior to the first day of competition. The schedule will be emailed to the Studio email address on file.
- Dancers must be ready to perform at least one hour prior to their scheduled time.
- Once a routine has checked in with the Backstage Manager, the routine is placed into queue within our judging system. If a performance fails to perform once in the queue, it will result in a 5 point deduction.
Music
- Titan Dance Challenge uses an electronic file upload system upon registration for all Performances. Studios will upload their music in advance through this registration portal.
- Music uploads will close 10 days prior to the first day of competition. Titan Dance Challenge will not accept or replace music after the music is uploaded to the portal.
- Backup music is required to be brought to the competition. Acceptable forms are USB sticks, USB drives or iPods. If there are technical difficulties on the part of Titan Dance Challenge, the Studio will be required to hand in the backup media and the performance can restart with no penalties. If there are technical difficulties with the music on the part of the Studio, the Studio will receive a 5-point deduction.
- Pitch level and speed cannot be controlled at the event. Please be sure to upload the correct version of your performances.
Awards
(this area may change based on survey results)
- All group performers will receive adjudication pins for each performance.
- Solos, duets and trio performers will receive adjudication medals for each performance.
- In order to be eligible for Overall Awards, the performance must compete prior to their Awards Ceremony.
- Production Overall Awards will be presented to performances in the 12 and under and 13 and over categories.
- Judge’s Awards will be presented at the Judge’s and Titan Dance Challenge discretion.
- Special awards will be given to performances at the discretion of the judges and Titan Dance Challenge.
- Titan Dance Challenge Studio Award will be presented to the Studio that displays good sportsmanship, kindness, and support towards other studios and staff at Titan Dance Challenge.
- Overalls
- Awards will go to the highest score in solos, duet/trios, small groups, large groups, lines, and productions.
- If a dancer has multiple solos, only the highest-scoring performance can place in the overalls.
